PC Torque - $25 million in 4 years

Posted April 15th, 2007 at 10:23pm

We ran PCT from its start in 2002 to the summer of 2006. It was a wild, wild ride.

The business reselling custom laptops online to gamers and high-end users. Customers built their systems online through a ’system builder’ interface, and we drop shipped it from the factory. It was a simple model - one product line of a lesser-known brand (at the time) and the best damn service we could provide (and being our own customers made that a priority).

It worked very well.

We went through so many growing pains, I thought it might kill me. From dealing with credit card processors who would hold five or six figures of our money each month because we didn’t have a business history, to dealing with hiring employees before we thought we were ready, to everything in between.

Oh, and did I mention that we had an infant and I was also 4 months pregnant when we started? Yeah, I was. Oh, and we also moved TWICE - once from Massachusetts to Florida, and then from Florida to Texas. Oh, and we had another baby, too. (That makes three if you were counting.) Our business never hiccuped through any of that. THAT was an amazing thing!

We had the best customers. Seriously - they were smart and awesome to work with. (Of course, there were exceptions, but for the most part - they rocked.) We love that we still get to see many of them each day on our main site Notebook Forums.

PC Torque is under new management these days, and they are doing an amazing job. Tell ‘em Laura says hi if you buy a new laptop!
