Itty bitty is the new big.
What’s more fun than a new laptop?
Let me preface by saying that I am a DTR kind of girl. Having sold computers, I was totally spoiled by the biggest, fastest, most beautiful laptops out there.
But recently, I have become enamored by itty bitty laptops. (I am all about extremes - it’s either big and powerful, or teeny weeny.) Adam and I did some shopping, and we decided on the TXN29N - a 2.8 pound 11.1 inch widescreen laptop. We bought one yesterday to try it out, and we will probably get two more.
IT’S SO DARN CUTE!!!
It’s got built-in Sprint Rev A for internet access literally anywhere, and with the included battery it gets like 5-6 hours of battery life (but the extended battery gets nearly 10 hours of battery life!). Can I just say that this thing fits in my purse? I swear - it fits perfectly.
I have seen the light. Yay for itty bitty things.

I will update when our review is up at NBF.

I have been thinking for a while to go the laptop route, price being the major concern. man it would be nice not to be locked to my desk to access all my files. A docking station and another monitor, I would be set.

Seriously, once you go to a laptop, it’s hard to go back. I haven’t had a desktop in at least 5 years and I couldn’t imagine it any other way. This new laptop is as small (or smaller) than carrying a book, so it takes portable to a whole new level.
I have a thing about working at a desk. It doesn’t work well for me. I like to move around and if I want to work at a coffee shop, I want something I can take with me.
Thanks for stopping by, Natron!

I currently have a 17″ HP. I love it, but it’s not good for gaming. Battery time is awful and it weighs a ton.
I can really see where something small with long battery life would be nice. I think I’m going to have to check out that 19″ though.

I had a leeetle bitty Sony Vaio once.
I put it in my back pocket and never saw it again…
But seriously, I use a Fujitsu Lifebook with a 10.4” screen and even though it’s got 1280×768 resolution, I plug it into an external LCD every chance I get.
If you don’t already wear glasses or contacts, you might after using the Vaio for extended periods of time.
[I think you have just figured out why 10/10 Japanese are short-sighted….ah hai! Soodesu!!!]

The 19″ has TWO video cards in it - one runs half the the screen and the other runs the other half. Pretty cool, eh?
Yeah, we are very used to the battery life issue on these big systems. It’s a good trade off for the power. Adam hasn’t touched his old laptop since I brought this one home. He’s actually really surprised at how much he’s become attached to it!
Here’s the 19″ laptop - but it’s actually a 20″ now. He got his right when they came out, and they weren’t putting in the 20″ LCDs yet. People literally gasp when they see it - it’s a monster.

Haha, Andrew… I guess you can appreciate how itty bitty this thing is! Fortunately, I have really good vision.
I so use a 23″ widescreen LCD when I can (ie. when I am near a desk), but I don’t mind the little screen.
I do plan on using my 17″ laptop after I get my little one. Spoiled? Never!

I just always feel like I’m working with one hand behind my back when I use my laptop. I usually use 2×19″ LCDs and also have my desktop control my laptop for an additional monitor. I like my real estate! Spending $3-4K on a laptop always sets me off also.

I wonder how long before we see projectors built into laptops. It would really lighten the load.
That 20″ looks great, but I had such a hard time finding a case for the 17″.

Looks good, itty bitty works when your on the road needing to write an article or check emails, or simply browse the net and keep in touch with the office. But for what I do at home and in the office - video editing, big is still cool
If I was making enough to warrant it, I would get one too.

I just bought an itty bitty that fits in my purse and weight 2 lbs and has a 7″ screen. I like it but have not yet gotten used to the smaller keyboard so I am making a lot of typos. When I get more accustomed to it I will like it better!
